Wondering if the content you’re posting on your social media pages is really going to amount to anything? Does it sometimes feel like groundhog day when you’re creating content – like you’re posting the same thing again and again?
You’re not alone! But, a good social media strategy starts with an intentional mix of content. That’s why today I’m sharing with you the five different post types that should be in rotation so that you can grow your community, let them see what your business is really about, open the door for them to get to know you, and guide them to take the next step with you without being pushy.
Tips and Education
This is probably the easiest content to create because you are the expert in what you do – so give some of that genius to your audience! They’ll get a quick win, and at the same time, you’re proving to them that you know your stuff.
I firmly believe that your educational topics are your most valuable, and deserve to live in a place off of social media platforms. I teach exactly how to do this in my free on-demand workshop to Plan Your 2022 Content, and give you an entire system to implement in Conquer Your Content Marketing – but really what is going to save you the most time while maximizing the impact of your most valuable information is by expanding on one topic at a time, which you should then break down into bite-sized pieces for social media.
For example, the blog you are reading right this moment will fuel my social posts for about a week and a half! I’ll announce it in one post, and then every other day until my next blog comes out will be an explanation of one post type, which I can copy/paste/tweak from this blog right here! Again, I teach exactly how to do this here and here.
Promotional
Did you cringe when you read that? Promotional content doesn’t have to feel slimy or gross, but your audience needs to know exactly how to take the next step with you, so you need to tell them. Here are some non-cringey ideas to directly promote your products and services:
- How to work with us
- Freebie or Opt-In to Mailing List
- Pre-Launch Your Next Offer
- Run a Contest or Giveaway
- Offer Suite Roadmap
- ‘Now Booking’ or ‘Open Slots’ announcement
I consider a promotional post to be anything that is asking for a transaction of some sort, and it doesn’t have to be your biggest ticket item, it could just be the entry point into your pipeline or sales funnel. It definitely doesn’t have to be “buy this thing now!” Here are a few examples of calls-to-action that are a bit more inviting:
- Get started by [first step in your pipeline].
- Download my [resource] to get [a quick win]!
- If you’re ready to [get this result] then [do this].
Behind-the-Scenes
You can promote your products and services all you want – but what’s going to warm your audience up to take action on those promotional posts are the behind-the-scenes posts. The magic is in the story, in the transformation, and in the experience.
Your audience should be able to get a peek into who you are, how you do what you do, and what it’s actually like to work with you. Pulling back the curtain will allow them to imagine actually going through the process with you, and see themselves in the shoes of someone whose life is easier or better after working with you.
Here are some ideas for these types of posts:
- Introduce Yourself + Team
- Testimonials
- Before + After
- A story about your product or service
- Statistics + Data of your company
- Weekly or Monthly roundup of clients or projects
- Share your daily agenda on a particularly busy day
Question and Answer
Q+A posts are essential for actively listening to what your audience wants or needs, and also for encouraging engagement and opening conversations. Good for validating your offers, building relationships, and for the algorithm itself! Wins all around. Here are some ideas:
- Answer frequently asked questions
- Ask for input on what your audience wishes you offered
- Address a common struggle and ask how you can help
- Creative fill-in-the-blanks
- This or that?
- How would you feel if…
- Who is your go-to for..? Tag them in the comments
Expermental, Personal, and Fun
There doesn’t always have to be a business goal in mind! A great way for your audience to really get to know you – the face behind the brand – is just by posting what you feel like posting! Here are some ideas:
- Quotes
- Glimpse into your personal life
- Share your business mantra
- Office tour
- Share a hobby
- Feature your business besties
And there you have it! Those are the five categories that I use to keep social media content valuable, connection-driven, fresh, and exciting!
